DiskAid is a free download for Mac OS X that is used to recover deleted files and restore your computer to it's original state. It works by scanning your hard drive and providing you with the results of each file, allowing you to select the one you want to restore. In a lot of cases, DiskAid can restore your computer to it's original state without the need to restore the entire hard drive. After DiskAid has been used to delete a file, it can be safely deleted from your hard drive. The Recovery Assistant will then scan your computer and provides you with the location of the file.
To use this application, it is best to select an application from the "Downloads" option. If you are using the latest version of the product, DiskAid will only offer its downloads as an option to its download page. If not, you can use the standard Mac application downloads page. You will then be required to enter the email address of the person to whom you want to send the recovery package. Then, enter the MAC address of your computer. It will show you a screen that asks for a password, which you should enter once the page loads.
Once you enter the password, a screen appears asking if you want to Restore the Mac. Selecting this option will take DiskAid to your Mac and start the recovery process. Depending on your computer system, it may take several minutes to recover all the files it needs to restore the data it has located. When you have finished, the message "DiskAid successfully recovered the files you selected." will appear.
